I accept referrals from:
- Primary schools
- Secondary schools (up to Year 8)
- SEN Primary Schools
- SEN Secondary Schools
and,
- private referrals from parents/carers
I work with individuals on a 1:1 basis and each session is typically 4o minutes long.
I also offer group play therapy work.
The sessions take place at the same time and location on a weekly basis.
Parent-Child Attachment Play is an innovative early help model for parents/carers and children aged 3 to late teens that focuses on strengthening the parent/carer-child relationship.
It is a gentle and nurturing play-based approach that provides parents/carers with the skills to reinforce and enhance family relationships.
PCAP works on the belief that parents/carers are the experts on their child and can be the ‘change agent’ in their own family.
It is proven to increase attachment security in children. This approach is both theory and evidence-based.
The sessions are suitable for individuals, couples and groups.
How can I help?
I am a Parent-Child Attachment Play Practitioner.
PCAP is a 10-step approach in which I share 3 skills with the parents/carers through interactive sessions where they learn, practice, and implement the skills.
I support the parents/carers as they transfer these skills to their home life. This process helps them to connect with their child and build and repair their relationship.
I aim to help parents/carers strengthen their relationship with their children through dedicated weekly play times to reduce emotional and behavioural challenges and empower them to build a more secure relationship with their children. I support them in developing play skills and deepening connections with their children.
Parents/carers are such a vital piece in their children’s well-being!
*This program can be offered:
- as supportive sessions designed specifically for parents/carers
- while children are on a waiting list to access therapeutic support
- as a supplement following a course of play therapy sessions, to seal the therapeutic process of the child into their family life
As a play therapist, I will need to collect personal information about the children and families I will be supporting. Under the General Data Protection Procedure (GDPR) and the Data Protection Bill (DPB), I need to inform carers of how that information is stored and used.
I require this information to comply with the standards of PTUK, the Department of Education and my local authority and I have registered with the Information Commissioners Office (ICO).
I will process any information according to the seven principles below:
1. I must have a lawful reason for collecting personal data and must do it fairly and transparently. I will be clear about what information I am collecting and why. I have a contract for my therapeutic services.
2. I must only use the data for the reason it is initially obtained. This means that I may not use a person’s information to market a product or service to them that is unconnected to the reasons for which they shared that information with me in the first place.
3. I must not collect any more data than is necessary. I will only collect the information that I need to hold to do my job for which I have collected it.
4. I will ensure that the data is accurate and up to date.
5. I will not keep data any longer than needed. I must only keep the information for as long as I am legally obliged to.
6. I must protect personal data. I will ensure that the information held is stored securely locked in a filing box.
7. I will be accountable for the data. This means that I will be able to show how I am complying with the law.
Information Sharing
Carers may request to inspect the records held about their child at any time. This will be provided within one month after the request, which should be made in writing.
Information cannot be shared without parental permission unless it is a Safeguarding concern. If I am worried about a child’s welfare or a child discloses a safeguarding concern, I have a duty of care to follow the Local Safeguarding Board procedures and make a referral.
Storing Information
All information obtained for the interest of the child will be kept confidential and stored in a locked filing cabinet in my home. This information will be kept for the length of time that is legally required and then destroyed.
Record keeping
If I suspect that data has been accessed unlawfully, I will inform the relevant parties immediately and report to the Information Commissioner’s Office within 72 hours. I will keep a record of any breaches of data.
